All photos of the muskox were taken in Dovre, Norway, one of the few places in the world where they live.

Most of the photos show bulls, ranging from young animals about three years old to mature bulls. The calf is about five or six months old, and the final photo shows a cow. Their horns help distinguish them: an old bull’s horns form a broad boss across most of the forehead, while those of young bulls have not yet grown together and those of cows remain separated.

Visitors should use a guide and keep the recommended safety distance of at least 200 m. Muskoxen are powerful, surprisingly fast animals and may charge if approached too closely.
